Not much happening on the racing front this week, although we are keeping six horses going at the moment. We sold seven horses at Doncaster today, Moynahan comes back to Whatcombe to maybe run in Deauville Claimers.
Ridden diferently, Gifted Girl should have been in the frame. She had not run for 3 months since she won her maiden at Goodwood and going on so far out she was bound to get tired in that company.
Swingland is a nice filly for next year, the ground was too fast for her at Newmarket, plus the fact she needs further.
Don Libre runs at Southwell on Thursday, he has shown signs of ability but the long arm of the Maktooms reaches even to Median Maidens at Southwell.
Circumvent who ran so well at Newbury from a poor draw is so well he could go to France for one last run. The Owners will decide if he should go to Dubai early next year.
Tony Bradley who has been with us for 30 years is leaving and going North. He will be sorely missed, there are not many better than him in the business. He has a young family and feels he would like a change, his family live in the North.
Therese O'Neil who has been under Head Lass and does the feeding, takes over. There is no aspect of the business that she is not fully experienced in. We have never had better staff, although we do miss Duilio Da Silva who now rides in Sweden.
The racing Administration seems to be spiraling downwards, comments and articles are all negative about the BHA, there is a great expression, water finds its own level, and I think this dire situation we are in proped up by the Maktooms will only get worse.
On a boring subject "the Whip" there has been ill informed comments including a Racing Post journalist saying that if a Jockey breaks the daft new rules that the horse should forfeit the race. Do they realise that in doing so they will also punish the lad who does the horse, the breeder, the stallion, the mare, the yard, the workrider, the punter etc. Everybody should read Charlie Brooks articles in the Telegraph, he makes the most overall sense at the moment.
