It’s not every day you have a classic runner. Not even every year. We are delighted that Rimth will be flying the flag not just for Whatcombe, but for England when she tackles the best of the French fillies in the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches (French 1000 Guineas). She worked well on Saturday, and is ready. She might have a little pipe-opener on Wednesday, but we’ll decide probably on the day.
Mons Calpe returned back to his best at Windsor, fighting off rivals at the finish. There should be more to come next time. Moynahan ran very well, and it seems Goodwood is his track. He can definitely pick one up in this grade.
Perfect Day was bitterly disappointing on her debut. She was sent off favourite, which may have been a tad optimistic, but we had expected at least a finish in the places. She was too green and hopefully will show her true colours next time.
Red Courtier could put us back to winning ways at York. If there’s cut in the ground, then we’re expecting a big show. Vicona won her race in workman-like fashion and should follow up as well.
Overpowered is having his debut at York or Newmarket, and is a lovely individual. He has the pace to burn off his rivals and could go well on his first outing. Royal Blush should improve on her second at HQ, where she was gradually getting closer but the finish came too soon. She’s very capable and we’d be hopeful of at least a repeat of her debut.
