We have had a very quiet month in the month of August. The horses are very well in themselves and we are just about to turn it up a bit.
Gifted Girl may head to the Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial or she has been invited to the Flower bowl Invitational Stakes at Belmont Park in New York. Gifted Girl is in very good form and is fresh and well, There was some more good form for her through Lady's First at Sandown on Saturday, there has got to be a big one in her.
Jim Crowley came to ride Berkshire on Saturday and felt he was in good form and had come on from his race, the horse has grown an inch and we are very happy with him physically and mentally, he is ready to run and is fit and well. The Champagne Stakes is his target a week Saturday.
Double Points heads for Craon in France and runs in the Listed Criterium De L'Ouest over the extended mile. Double Points came fourth in a listed in Deauville on the 20th August, he was very unlucky not to have been there or there abouts after nearly been knocked over at the bend and loosing momentum and then finishing like a train. We really like him and he should have a good chance in Craon he is growing and strengthening all the time. He also thrives on racing
Complicit heads either to the Sirenia Stakes or the Mill Reef Stakes. Complicit is a very nice horse, he's come on from his race leaps and bounds and runs in the colours of T A Rahman. We expect him to run well for our new owner who we are delighted to have in the yard. He is a half sister to Jersey Stakes winner Rainfall and seems to be talented himself.
We still have some nice two year olds too come out either at the end of this month or even next month. Ones too look out for are Fort Berkley by Fastnet Rock who is a half brother to Ebor winner Tiger Cliff. Also Treasure Key who is by Bahamian Bounty and is shaping up really nicely.

Hi Paul
ReplyDeleteAny chance of updating the horses in training list.
Thanks
Good Luck with the upcoming entrys and fingers crossed for a huge run from Berkshire and sure Gifted girl will win get a Group 1/ grade 1 win forms rock solid and prolly even better horse nxt year if stayed in training, thou its hard obviously to take a risk for owner breeding purposes if bags a group/grade 1 this year.
ReplyDeletei am going to Doncaster so will be cheering Berkshire past the post.
First past !!
Best of luck with the the horses and a victory for Berkshire
ReplyDeleteThe form is looking top class from the Chesham Bunker gone on and won Listed race ,Ihtimals maiden(came 2nd) won by Kiyoshi who finished 2d at the curragh on Sunday in the group 1.
Ihtimal went on and won the the sweet solera by 2 and a half group 3 race.
Somewhat has come out an won a listed race at Newbury by 4 and a half.
Everything is crossed for BERKSHIRE on Saturday week and the "Berkshire fund" is ready to scalp the bookies with. After reading the news I'm even happier that he has a real chance with his height gain and knowing that he's in "good health".Thanks a lot for the extra information about the stables un-raced youngsters who will be racing soon.It is great to learn about prospective winners on your website I hope that the layers don't read it and offer crazy prices as a consequence.Sincere Best Wishes to all at Whatcombe-long may your good fortune continue and the deserved winners keep coming past the post first!!
ReplyDeletewowser talk about coming on for your first run @Elysian Prince .
ReplyDeleteran away with the 6.20 at lingfield maiden today 3rd september by a easy 4/5 lenghs win an going off at 7/4 looks like improvment from the 7 /8 place at goodwood for first run.
hard to know what to make of it as a maiden auction but was hugely impressive and was running on strongly through the winning line without much effort by the horse or jockey.
The stable trained the dam by the look of the name for same owner if i remember correctly and looks like it was up for sale a couple of times, if so that will have got the notice an put up the price of it specially in the lucrative Hong Kong buying markets as dam is by American dirt pedigree, Cat thief breeder cup classic winner if want to sell.
if not will be intresting where and what race you decide to go for next with this one what level to pitch him in at ,take it step by step or move him up to a nice race .
As said it was a lingfield maiden auction but was in a diffrent league to them and was going strongly and still in hand through the winning line.
Great stuff so happy for the stable after really quite times of late . keep them coming.
WELL DONE!! Again!!
ReplyDeleteElysian Prince looked like he would have won at Lingfield tonight even if he had been towing a cart behind him.Yet another very nice 2 year old who had been trained beautifully to bring home the oats.I hope that some of the winning owners keep their good horses in training for Whatcombe to continue their great work next season and the stable can compete in some of the big races like they did a few years ago.If I knew that Berkshire was staying around and would be able to step up to cope with the extra distance I would certainly consider investing in him taking either the 2,000 guineas or the Derby(or even both) next year as his current odds of 20/1 and 25/1 look very attractive to me.Saturday week will be very interesting and after the stable win at Lingfield tonight when I quadrupled up -I took the very early morning 3/1-my "Berkshire Fund" to declare war with on the 14th.A few weeks ago my only worry was if he was going to win but now I may have the additional problem of getting it all down at a fair price to cope with-What a lovely problem to have! One that I'm so very grateful to have as a consequence of following the stable runners this season.Thank You all at Whatcombe!!
Can someone please tell me why BlueGrass Blues was demoted to 2nd yesterday?I backed him e/w at 7/1 with both Betfred and Winner.com and luckily Betfred still pay out on "First Past the Post" so I'm in great shape for Berkshire next Saturday.I've watched the replay many times on Sky Sports since and can't see any valid reason for him to be demoted into 2nd place.I can see that the price shortened up a few points just before the off and probably the bookies were going to get spanked if the result stood but surely this is a bit dramatic and the type of thing that only gets into fiction books?
ReplyDeleteKind Regards
Michael
you got to laugh theres been at least 2 or 3 high profile group 3 and group 1 races where the winners took the second from 1 side of the track all the way to other and kept 1st.
ReplyDeleteand i watched one other day over jumps where it was obviously he saw the 2nd coming strong past it on outside and pulled it out to(check) block it on purpose and had to and again also took it along way out into centre of track and same thing result unchanged.
so theres no consistency whatever.
2nd time happened to the cole yar happened at Newmarker i think it was same think sucks.
backed it on Betfair so no pay out but thats not the point just unfair and unjust.
Quote "The Stewards held an enquiry under Rule (B)11.6 into possible interference inside the final furlong. Having heard their evidence and viewed recordings of the race they found that the winner, BLUEGRASS BLUES (IRE), ridden by John Fahy, had interfered with FUTURE REFERENCE (IRE), placed second, ridden by Silvestre De Sousa, and that the interference had improved BLUEGRASS BLUES (IRE)’s placing. They placed FUTURE REFERENCE (IRE) first, and BLUEGRASS BLUES (IRE) second. The Stewards found Fahy in breach of Rule (B)54.1 and guilty of careless riding in that he allowed his mount to drift left. They suspended him for 2 days as follows: Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September 2013.
ReplyDeleteThats the official version from stewards
Thanks for the information and the official stewards report.Personally I think that they got it wrong BUT as someone who did not have the benefit of viewing the race in person I must accept the decision they reached.Considering the poor prize money on offer and the considerable expense involved in getting a horse to compete I wonder if in future some owners and trainers will think a bit deeper before sending them off to Kempton to race.As a regular punter I know that from now on I will try and ensure that I only bet with bookies who pay out on "first past the post" runners as well any amended results.
DeleteUpdate !
ReplyDeletewell first thing congrats to all involved with Berkshire,s on the royal lodge win.
a few i guess not positive comments as i guess people maybe were expecting a runaway run ?.
first thing he won and a group 2 a big step up from a listed race ,second he been off a whiles it was also blatently obvious he didnt handle the dip as alot of big horses especially immature not experinced 2 year olds do and was running on the spot so to say wasnt happy untill he started going up the hill and balanced out then started to pick up again an won.
lastly the Royal lodge was a win and your in to the Breeders cup juvenile Turf race at Santa Anita .
personally think this would be a huge oppitunity for the stable ,these things dont come round too often.
i think the race is made for Berkshire a strong traveling horse with a finishing kick ,the grass is always lush at Santa Anitia so ground no problem, 1,000,000 dollars up for grabs and a grade 1 think it is a massive chance for a huge win for the yard and shouldnt be passed up.
best of luck for the remaning time of this season.
