It’s been a quiet couple of weeks at Whatcombe and we have only had a handful of runners.

Gifted Girl ran a massive race at Arlington in coming second behind Dank who in the end won nicely. The race did not really suit her way of running as it was a furious pace from the beginning, she broke and took a bit of time to get into stride aided by Tom who knows her very well. As Dank had left her up the straight by the time she got into top gear the race was over, she was a fast finisher.  She really enjoyed her trip and could be heading back to the States in September.

It was nice to see Strawberry Jam winning at Kempton under an enterprising ride by Nathan Alison he should get further in time as he stayed on strongly.

We do not have many runners over the next week and Dutch Art Dealer heads to Windsor he is in good form and we expect him to run well. Sovereign Power runs at Brighton and he is in good form.

  1. It was great that Gifted Girl ran so well on Saturday night and she certainly did well when considering the huge step up in class.

After Strawberry Jam pulled off the virtually impossible and got up to win at Kempton on Wednesday evening my week and pocket looked a whole lot better as I managed to get the early 14/1.Being the optimist that I am-and seeing that she is rated 4 higher than Berkshire- I splashed out some of the profit e/w on Gifted Girl.Unfortunately the British bookies were not so kind to me and a couple of hours before the race would only gave me 13/2 about her when the SP was more like double this price.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Berkshire run again next month and will take great delight in getting my revenge on them then as I have saved a decent lump from my winnings on him in the Chesham.

Sincere Best Wishes and thanks to everyone at Whatcombe for making this season so pleasurable for me and lifting my spirits while going through a very tough time recently due to poor health.

  2. Nice yup optimist is the word could nt back that one but ,guess if you backed it before kept the faith @strawberry jam ,nice to get it a win anyways as got a good pedigree for breeding/selling.get well soon .
havnt had a chance to watch the gifted girl race but sounds like it ran on strong at the end so hopefully can grab one of these big prizes again a nice pot of gold and also again for pedigree purposes.
Dutch Art Dealer did me/ us a favour today thou had me sweating as money down was very stron on this one after 1st run and also the forem tv guys crabbing its form so helped with the price
was totally diffrent run to to first one prolly because of track maybe.
1st run travelled very strong .
here was being pushed along basically from the start to the 500ish yards from post then seemed to come back on the bridle and cruised in once clear, very promising indeed.
big thumbs up. horses seem to be running hot at the moment.

  3. "Thank You" to all staff at Whatcombe and Dutch Art Dealer!! You certainly did the business for me last night!!
Although the SP was a lot lower than predicted in the newspapers I extracted my revenge last night at the available 2/1-my gambling instinct got the better of me and my "BERKSHIRE" fund went on the nose as well so this has now been trebled up ready for next month when I am hoping to bring a few tears to their eyes when I get paid out!
I hope the lad or lass who looks after Dutch Art Dealer slips him an extra carrot or a polo mint!
I'm following your horses a lot closer this season and also being a little more selective in my bets,an approach that has paid great dividends.Since Ascot I have not had to worry about budgeting and paying bills which had been a massive problem for me since I had to stop working at the start of the year when the tumours were initially discovered. At night I can now sleep well because you have helped me take away any financial worries that had played on my mind and now I dream of backing winners instead of mountains of bills that need paying.

"Thank You" again all Whatcombe staff (and 4 legged residents) I hope that your recent good fortune continues for a VERY LONG time to come.
