Bouncing Back: Heels to return to winning ways

Moynahan showed us he still can still produce a run when it matters, finishing second to his opponent who got home better. He likes Goodwood, so we may look at Glorious for him. Paul Doe gave him an excellent ride, and although he is tricky to win with, we’re confident it won’t be long before he gets the run of the race.

We have chances galore this week, and we start off with Pinch of Posh. She is a talented filly with good form and, by the looks of the race, could be the one to beat if she turns up mentally ready.

Vicona is the same, and will need to lead. But if it’s a going day, she’ll win.

Silverheels has come out of Ascot really well, and we’re hoping that he can do the business in this novice stakes. We’re very happy at home.

Cheherazad ran below par last time, but the track at Warwick didn’t suit. We’re hoping she’ll recapture her Newbury form. Zing Wing got tired at Goodwood last time, but needed that and should put up a good fight.

Back to HQ: Circumvent bids to retain crown

Two great performances this week from juveniles getting off the mark. We're hoping for more of the same, particularly at the big meetings.

Silverheels went into the Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot as the 4-1 favourite, but never really was going. The moment Ryan Moore got off, he told us that the horse should go for the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood, so that’s the plan. He went into the race a little heavy as well. Circumvent never travelled and will now head for the same handicap at the HQ July meeting, the one he sprang a shock in last year at 40-1.

Pinch of Posh ran a lovely race to win in an affair which she’ll come on from. She’s been handed a rating of 68, and we’ll see how she works before making a decision about where to go next.

Overpowered also got off the mark nicely, keeping on at the finish. He’s entered again for this weekend at Salisbury.

This week isn’t a busy one. Moynahan will appreciate Windsor, and we hope he decides it’s a going day. Red Courtier will head to Salisbury and should go close on his best form. Circuitous ran a promising show at Bath and we’re looking for improvement from his next run.

Jersey a possible for Rimth

It’s one of the quietest weeks we’ve had for a long time. It’s what you might call the calm before the storm, the storm being the very busy summer festivals which we always send runners to, like Goodwood and York.

Royal Ascot may not be chocker full of our runners, but we are looking at the Jersey for Rimth. She ran a respectable race in the Pouliches, but maybe wasn’t Group 1 class. Her turn of foot is explosive over 7f, so we think she’d be right up there on home turf. Judging by her Newbury performance, she is not one to discount.

Vicona went to Bath with every chance in a handicap, but just didn’t like the firm ground that was on offer. She is French bred, so we’re looking at a claimer in France for her, where the ground will be softer and the prize money a millions times better.

Red Courtier seemed to take to Goodwood, which is always a bonus, and got close to winner before fizzling out. We’ll step him up in trip to see how he fares, because he looks like he needs it.

Moynahan didn’t go well at Sandown, although we think he is too highly rated for us to do anything with. He’s a decent horse on his day, but he won’t win on his current mark.

This coming week sees Mons Calpe go to Salisbury. Like Moynahan, he is probably too high to make a serious impact, but he likes his racing and if everything goes right, he might surprise a few people. Heart of Dixie might need a step up in trip with time, but Newbury’s flat galloping track is perfect for her.
