Berkshire likely re-routed. 2 year olds to look forward to.

Of Interest

We have had a handful of runners, headlined by Complicit who ran a great race in coming 4th in the Winter Derby after an interrupted prep because of a pulled muscle. He then improved from his last race as expected and ran in the Easter Classic at Lingfield and was runner up to Tryster who looks to be a very good horse. On reading Charlie Appleby's stable tour, Tryster is now heading for the Brigadier Gerard Stakes - he will be a very interesting horse to follow. Complicit will head either to the Swago Paradise Stakes at Ascot on the 29th April or The Royal Windsor Stakes on 11th May. He is in great shape but there will need to be a bit of ease in the ground.

Berkshire may be re-routed to the Prix d’Ispahan, he is still in the Prix Ganay but we feel it may come a little too soon for him. He is working well and seems to be in good form and well in himself.

Results in Britain

Nottingham's ground leaves us scratching our heads!!

Sir Henry Raeburn was bought at The Craven Breeze Up this time last year and after a quietish 2 year old campaign, where he managed to come third at Newmarket, he repayed us and won nicely at Kempton. He then ran at Nottingham where he was not suited to the track or watered ground and finished a very disapointing 8th. We have always thought a lot of the horse and expect him to do better.

Imperial link ran at Nottingham and she also did not seem to handle the tracks watered ground, she ran a lot better there last year when she came 3rd. I am sure we will find a suitable race for her where she can get her head in front.

Our first 2 year old runner was Caitie who ran a bit green. Having jumped out of the stalls quickly, she was then a bit slow into her stride, but caught up nicely and stayed on. We hope the next time she will be further educated and put up a true performance of herself, she has ability.

Our very well bred Fitri Hay owned Galileo filly, Jasmine Blue, won nicely at Newbury and looked very encouraging. The handicapper has put her up to 87. She may head to Royal Ascot next. She has always had a lot of class.

Lyfka ran really well in the Fred Darling in coming seventh. The handicapper has put her up 3 to 92. She is owned by her breeder Henry Robinson and may head to France in search of Black Type.

Upstaging ran really well in stepping up to seven furlongs from six. The jockey reported that the ground was too firm and that he did not let himself down.

Coming up.....

We have a few interesting runners coming up. Rotherwick, who won three times last year, is working well and heads to Sandown with Kirby who won on him last year at Newmarket. We have a nice Invincible Spirit colt who may run at Windsor on Monday.

France

Rockaroundtheclock has run four times in France this year, all in Claimers; he has won one in Chantilly on the all-weather and has been placed in three - 2nd at Saint-Cloud beaten a short head, unlucky, 4th at Fontainbleu and 3rd beaten by a short head at Maison-Laffitte. He has picked up just over £14,000 in prize money. He will be entered in a claimer at Chantilly on 4th May.

Berkshire has come out of his race really well, and the plan with him is to head to the Prix Ganay next year. Gifted Girl, who was very unlucky at Salisbury earlier on in the year heads to the Tattersalls December Mare sales. Meritocracy may be heading to St Moritz for their festival next year. We have bought some very nice yearling and we may still have a couple to Syndicate which are a Kheleyf (lot 536, Tattersalls) and a Cape Blanco (lot 224, Doncaster) these horses can also be bought outright should someone wish to. We have had a number of winners in the last couple of weeks and the stable is in good form:

FRANCE

In France, Elysian Prince took our tally up to eight winners, its not over yet. We head to the Deauville meeting, which starts on the 1st December. Complicit who will run on the 2nd December in a Listed. Bluegrass Blues, Rockaroundtheclock, Dusty Blue, Silverheels, Stormbound and Elysian Prince will also run during that month in conditions races and claimers.

BRITAIN

Upstaging, who we have always liked a lot, dissappointed us when running down the field first time out at Kempton. After that, on his last outing he won very nicely at Kempton and has now been put away for next year.

Dutch Art Dealer won two on the bounce and went to the sales, didn't sell, so we will aim for the Lincoln next year.

Rotherwick won very well at Newmarket under Adam Kirby which took his Tally to three this season. Remarkably, he won over 1 mile 1 furlong considering he is by Starspangedbanner, who was a sprinter himself. He has now been put away until next season.

Lyfka has gone up in the weights 18 pounds from her first win at Wolverhampton on the 21st October, and was unlucky not to have won another, she was nearly taken down in her penultimate race at Wolverhampton. She won last time out and she now runs at Kempton on Thursday with a penalty. Its usually quite hard to win with a penalty of 6 pounds but the handicapper is going to put her up another 10 pounds.

Falmouth Harbour is going the right way and will start at Kempton on Wednesday over a mile, will need a mile and a half in time. He is still developing and will hit top gear next year.

Foxy Boris has been working well and will head to Lingfield on wednesday where he should have a good chance.
It has been a very good couple of weeks for Whatcombe

The horses have been running very well in the last couple of weeks.

Berkshire our stable star romped home in the Darley Stakes to win easily by a length and a half. It is very satisfying for us as we have always had faith in him. There was a genuine reason he did not run well in the Greenham and this was because of the Entrolith. It is a possibility he will now head to the Pre Ganay next year.

Lyfka ran nicely under Martin Lane to win by 9 Lengths, she will now head to Wolverhampton on Tuesday in a Handicap over 7f.

Dutch Art Dealer won at Wolverhampton from an unlucky draw and is now rated 90 he will head to the sales at Newmarket on Wednesday.

Elysian Prince won a claimer at Wolverhampton and will possibly head to France in the near future

Dusty Blue is another nice filly that we like she came second at Kempton and holds an entry at Kempton over 6f, she should go well.

British Art ran nicely at Kempton and will come on from the race. It was a long time since his last race.

Complicit The ground at Newbury was very soft for him and he didn't get home in the ground. There is a possibility he will run in France on on Friday on the all weather track at Chantilly, in a conditions race, depending on if he recovers well from his race at Newbury where he probably had quite a hard race.

Gifted Girl runs later on in the week and has been working well, we expect he to put up a better performance

Its Lady Mary has come on from her last race and she probably runs at Kempton later on in the week

Upstaging ran very disappointingly first time out at Kempton, but we think he is quite good and is entered again at Kempton where we hope he puts up at better performance

Sir Henry Raeburn is another horse we quite like, again disappointing at Windosr first time out, but should put up a better account of himself.

There could be a couple of winners around this week so look out!!!

The
horses have generally been in great form lately with a few hitting the cross
bar and generally been unlucky.

BRITAIN
(Runners/Results)

Lyfka - was unlucky at
Kempton having come 2nd, she broke a bit slowly from the stalls
costing her the race. She has done a lot of stalls work since then and she
should be capable of winning.

Kubeba - came 4th at Kempton after
a bad draw of 14. He is now rated 70 and
will run on Thursday, sadly he has another bad draw. He will probably run in a claimer over 1m at
Maison Laffite on the 7th October.

Meritocracy - has run twice
in the last couple of weeks, we thought he would win at Kempton, but he just
tied up before the line over 6 furlongs, so we ran him at Salisbury over 5
furlongs, the ground was too firm. He
may take his chances again over 5 furlongs at Kempton.

St Paul De Vence - ran in a
tongue tie at Brighton, which seems to have made a difference as he came second. He may run at Newbury on Friday with Luke
Morris aboard.

Dutch Portrait - ran well at Salisbury, he could of probably been
a couple of lengths closer, but he was to out of touch during the race and had
too much ground to make up. There is a
0-70 at Kempton on the 2nd October that should suit him.

Stormbound - ran a nice race
to finish second at Kempton he will now cross the Channel for a claimer over
one mile on the 6th October at Chantilly.

Londonia - runs again at
Newbury on Thursday over 7 furlongs, his first run was over a mile at Kempton
where he seemed to show some speed.

Russian Reward - ran a nice
race at Kempton to come third. We have always liked him, but think he is
slightly immature so will not run for a while now.

Silverheels - ran a good race
in the London Mile final, but the draw 15 of 16 cost him the race. Ashley Morgan reported the he would have been
“bang there”.

Dutch Art Dealer - ran a very
nice race to win by 3 lengths under Silvestre De Souza. The handicapper took no prisoners and has put
him up 7 pounds to 87.

Ssafa - won nicely at Kempton
under Martin Lane, the handicapper decided to put her up 9 to 79. She
then ran at York and came fourth under Loius Steward. We may have to wait some
time before she can win again.

Pendo - ran really well again
after his win at Salisbury under an enterprising ride from Miss A Mills. He
then ran again at Kempton where he was just touched off in the final stages. He
has really come on since being with us and we hope he gets stronger and better
as he gets older.

Blue Grass Blues - won nicely
on the grass at Lingfield, someone backed him in from 11-1. He seems to be in
better form after his break and should improve.

Rotherwick – won nicely at
Yarmouth today under Luke Morris, after being 3rd in a competitive nursery
at Doncaster where he was unlucky to find himself a bit too far off the pace
and had a little too much ground to make up only 3 days ago.

Ardingly - had her first run for us at Bath she has
recently come from America and the 1m2f was probably too far for her. She has
talent and should win off her current mark.

Imperial Link<span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 11.0pt; mso-ascii-theme-font: minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font: minor-bidi; mso-hansi-theme-font: minor-latin;"> – ran a tough race at Yarmouth today, to finish
4th beaten by just over a length.

FRANCE
We have had some success in France with Skaters Waltz winning a claimer and
getting claimed for 32,000 euros with the prize money the owner came back with
43,500 euros. Skaters Waltz - is
running on Friday in a 40,000 Euro claimer over 7 ½ furlongs. He won a 26,000 Euro claimer last time in
France and we claimed him back. This
time he is running at Clairefontaine and goes in there with a great chance.

Fort Berkeley - won
a 26,000 Euro claimer in France, 11,500 Euro to the winner, he was claimed for
a bit more than asked and we came back with 42,000 Euro.

Speed Machine - the
ground turned to soft for SM and he didn’t move or run well at all.

Meritocracy - ran
really well to come 4th in a 40,000 Euro claimer over 6 ½ furlongs,
he did not quite get the last ½ furlong.
He went out front running but the other horses would not let him take a breather
to get the last ½ furlong.

Britain

Gifted Girl
- ran very well at Salisbury finishing 2nd beaten by 2 lengths, she
had too much ground to make up from last to first, got stopped a couple of
times, then had to pull out and got beaten by a couple of lengths. The winner made all from the front and ½ furlong
spread the field.

Rotherwick
- ran very well at Kempton, the plan was to go out in front, he did not have
enough early speed to get to the front, which could have cost him the race.

Blue Grass Blue
- ran a great race at Newmarket coming 4th but the ground was too
soft.

Dutch Art Dealer
- ran very well finishing 2nd, he just hung slightly which cost him
the race.

Kubeba - ran
really well, he will come on from this race and hopefully improve again. He looks like there is a race in him.

Runners

Ssafa – is
running in a fillies handicap, she works well at home, this is her first time
out for us and she looks in good form.

Dutch Portrait
– is going to run at Goodwood, he has come on from his last race at Kempton
where greenness probably beat him and he should run really well - all being
well with the draw down there.

Secret Success
- also runs at Goodwood on the same day and is in great form.

Russian Reward
- is a 2 year old we have always liked and may run at Windsor. He is quick from the stalls and all being
well should run a good race.

Gifted Girl
- is entered in The Winter Hill Stakes taking on some very good horses but she
might just be back to her best so could be competitive.

Complicit
- takes his chances but we think he likes the soft ground. He ran very well last time in France and we
also think he is back to his best - he might be out of his depth.

Tioga Pass
– is entered in the Fillies handicap at Goodwood, she is in great form and we
hope the ground has no firm in the description.

Paul Cole Racinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04585470006963771937noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1913402456684635611.post-69244830273460425072014-08-10T05:07:00.000-07:002014-08-10T05:07:56.741-07:00

Our horses have been running very well, we could have been a bit luckier with our draw's which have cost us a handful of races, but they look like winners in the making, if everythig falls right. Expensive Date ran a huge race at Lingfield, coming third, the winner was 1,600ths of a second outside of the course record, so it was a very hot race. She is entered in the St Hughes Stakes at Newbury next Friday. Gipsy Doll and Arthurs Way both came third at Brighton, they will both now go the handicapping route, we just hope that the handicapper is fair in his judgment of third at Brighton. Dutch Portrait was very green going into the race at Kempton and behaved like he had never run before, he ran very encouragingly to come second and we have always thought highly of the horse and think that by the end of the season he could win a nice contest.

The next couple of weeks we are going over to France with several horses, kicking off with Silverheels today in a claimer. The ground has gone soft, so this will not be in his favour. He is in good form but we think he prefers the faster ground.

Fort Berkeley is running on Friday in Deauville in the Prix de Petit Cotil which is a 26,000 euro claimer and 11,500 euros to the winner, which is on the sand. He is in great form and we expect him to run a huge race.

Meritocracy runs next Sunday in a 40,000 euro claimer, 13,500 euros to the winner, called the Prix de Bonnet Bosq. We think that the draw beat him at Kempton last time out. He is in great form, the only question mark is the that the race is 6.5 furlongs, not 6 - the extra half furlong might catch him out.

Speed Machine has been entered in the Prix Etalon Muhtathir which is a conditions race over 6.5 furlongs, with a value of 17,000 euros to the winner. He has also been entered in the Prix Francois Boutin, which is a listed race. These races are both at Deauville. He won a maiden in France first time out this year and went over again but Mendizabel reported that he was not the same horse on the soft ground.

Complicit has been entered in the Prix Pelleas which is a listed over 9 furlongs at Clairefontaine. He ran very well last time out at Deauville over a mile in a listed event, coming third. We think the step up in trip to 9 furlongs will be to his liking.

We have four runners at Deauville on Friday, 22 August; Skaters Waltz (who won a claimer at Deauville by 7.5 lengths) is entered in a 40,000 euro claimer and 13,500 to the winner, called the Prix Des Fuschias over one mile, we expect him to run very well. Speed Machine and Rotherwick are entered in the Criterium Du Fondes European De L'elvage which is a two year old listed over one mile. Rockaroundtheclock is entered in a 40,000 euro claimer, 13,500 to the winner, called the Prix De Valmont over 6.5 furlongs - the ground was too soft for him at Deauville when he came thrid earlier on this week.

The French trainers have been complaining about the all-weather track in Deauville because it is too soft and the kickback is horrendous, so they have moved a lot of the races on to the grass, including Silverheels today.

The above entries are not set in stone, they are a rough plan of the up and coming two weeks.

Our next runners in England are on Wednesday at Kempton and at Salisbury. Rotherwick runs in a maiden over 7 furlongs and goes there in great form. He came second at Goodwood, beaten by a very smart looking Dutch Connection, he seems to be a slow learner and improving with every run. Secret Success also runs at Kempton, he really likes the track and goes there in good form, he was just caught up last time out at Newmarket, but is game and consistent and turning into a real professional. Dutch Art Dealer will probably run at Salisbury over a mile, the ground should be perfect for him. Blue Grass Blues may run on Thursday at Newmarket in the 7 furlong race in which he is one of the highest rated, we believe that he didn't come down the hill at Goodwood and is in good from at home.

We had a pleasing Goodwood. Fast Romance was unlucky not to have come fourth, she got wiped out by Fallon within the last furlong and Crowley had to stop riding - momentum stopped so she had to settle with fifth. Rotherwick ran a very good race in coming second to a very nice horse of Charlie Hills called Dutch Connection. We will try and win an ordinary maiden now.

We have been out to France a fair bit in the last month and Skaters Waltz won a claimer by seven and a half lengths. Speed Machine has been over there twice and on his first appearance he won a Maiden over 6 1/2 beating a nice horse of John Claude-Rouget. We took him over for a second time but the ground went soft and his Jockey Loritz Mendizabel reported that he was not the same horse on the ground especially over a furlong further.

Complicit came third in the Prix de Tougeville which is a listed over one mile, he ran nicely but was a bit free in the early part of the race which may have then blunted his speed. He will head out their again in a couple of weeks. We always thought a lot of him and we feel he has just come right. He may also be suited by a smaller field.

Dutch Portrait is a nice horse in the making, he has a bad draw tonight but we feel since his gelding he has come together nicely he may need further in time but has a lot of speed.

Meritocracy is back on a surface he likes - we will probably try and make the running. He did not like the ground at Ascot last time because it was too much on the soft side for him.

Its Lady Mary has been running well and was unlucky to bump into a good filly of Jaimie Osbournes on her last outing. She will run at Brighton tomorrow and should give a good account of herself.

Expensive Date may head to Lingfield on Friday but she may also head to the St Hughes Stakes (it is in the air at the moment). She has really grown and worked very well this morning over five furlongs.

Fort Berkeley is in great form at home and heads to Lingfield either on Friday or Saturday all being well. He may go to France the weekend after and run in Deauville - we feel he could be a nice stayer next year.

Blue Grass Blues and Silverheels are entered in a 32,000 Euro claimer on Sunday in Deauville. At the moment Blue Grass Blues is going and Silverheels is running on Monday at Windsor, they are both in great form. Blue Grass Blues was not suited by the down hill at Goodwood. He has come out of the race bouncing.

Berkshire is in great form and is taking his work very nicely. We are forced to step up his work as he gets very fresh, so he is doing easy routines for 4 furlongs and then routine for 4 furlongs on our 1 mile 2 furlong woodchip gallop. His work rider is very happy with him.

We have three runners at Deauville over the all-weather, all in Claimers; Circumvent runs in a mile one, to be claimed for 22,000 euros, ridden by L. Mendizabel; Skaters Waltz runs in a seven and a half furlong to be claimed for 17,000 euros, this is an apprentice race, for apprentices that have not won more than ten races; St Paul De Vence runs in a mile one, to be claimed for 20,000 euros. With the great prize money on top, we are hoping for a profitable week.

Stormbound may run at Longchamp in a Claimer over one mile, to be claimed for 22,000 euros, but the race looks too hot for him at the moment, so we will wait for the first forfeit stage.

We have some nice newcomers at Newbury; Dusty Blue, It's Lady Mary, Fast Romance - who are all nice fillies in the making and Rotherwick and Rock Around The Clock who are both by Starspangledbanner and both go very well. As we all know, Starspangledbanner had two winners at Royal Ascot.

Gipsy Doll will start at Warwick, she seems to have some speed and should put up a good account of herself.

The horses have been running as expected the last couple of weeks. We had quite a quiet Royal Ascot but it is so competitive anyway. Gifted Girl has not been running true to form but we are going to continue to try with her and find an easier race if possible, she may have lost her confidence but it is not over yet. Complicit was not suited by the large field and may be too high in the handicap. Expensive Date was run off her feet and probably needs six furlongs. It was nice to see Stormbound win under a seriously strong ride from Luke Morris. Dutch Art Dealer got too tired at Newmarket and faded out in the last half furlong and Skaters Waltz did not like the ground. We always thought highly of British Art and first time out he was very disappointing, but since his gelding he has turned a corner and probably got beat by a very good horse of Godolphins at Newmarket. It was nice to see Circumvent win since his last win in 2011, we ran him very quickly after Nottingham because he came back sound and he did not run a race so going to Leicester proved us right. Paul Cole Racinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04585470006963771937noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1913402456684635611.post-62175562023644814932014-06-20T01:35:00.000-07:002014-06-20T01:35:53.107-07:00Runners

We have some interesting runners coming up, the two year olds which have been slow into their stride because of some bad scopes are back on line. We start tonight with British Art, who has already run once but came back with a bad scope. We have always liked him and since his run he has been gelded and this seems to have straightened him up a bit. We also have RockAroundTheClock who is due to run at Chepstow, he is very quick and is by the dual Royal Ascot winning sire Starspangledbanner, the draw ruined his chances at Sandown where he had nothing on his outside and he swung right coming out.

Secret Success is in great form and has come out of his last win at Lingfield in great form. Skaters Waltz and Dutch Art Dealer both line up at Newmarket, they are both really well, we are just hoping for safe ground, which Newmarket tends to provide. St Paul De Vence may run at Chepstow, he is a very tricky horse to get right on the day, he retains his ability at home. Dark Days will probably run next week, he probably still needs to come down the handicap but has been working well since his last run where he was unlucky in running. There should be a race in Meritocracy and he heads to Windsor on Monday.

Results

It was great to see Circumvent win after such a long time since his last win in 2011. The owners have really been very patient and from his handicap mark he clearly performs better on the all-weather than the grass. The Goodwins whom own him were absolutely thrilled. There are so many horses in this bracket, maybe it is time to bring back more condition races like we had a few years ago. We hope he has regained his confidence and hope he can step up from this.

Cafetiere got claimed down at Lingfield so best of luck to her new connections.

Royal Ascot

Gifted Girl will now have a bit of a break and will come back later in the year, we will have to find a weaker race to try to bring her back as she may have lost her confidence. The ground was a bit too firm for Complicit and the trip was probably questionable; he looks badly handicapped so he may head to France next.

Lyfka ran ok at Nottingham, she may need five furlongs and fast ground. Lisamour has now won twice for her connections, she will have a month off as she has had some quick races, she is quite well bred so could be a nice mare prospect for her owner.

She will now head to the Middleton Stakes at York on Thursday if the ground is suitable, the track will suit her more as it is a galloping track, we expect her to improve. Gifted Girl's full sister, Finagle, has arrived at Whatcombe, she is very similar, has size, scope and strength - an exciting prospect. It is also good to have The Rogers Family, Airlie Stud, as new owners.

Tioga Pass won nicely at Kempton, she is a half sister to Circumvent and we expect her to improve throughout the season. It was hard to watch Cape Arrow get beat at Bath as we really fancied him, but it was nice to see him win at Southwell.

Lisamour had a very bad draw at Kempton, this made her gallop on the outside and she was too free, which ruined her chances at the end, so we will ignore that and find another race in a couple of weeks as she deserves a little break.

St Paul De Vence who has had a long layoff ran very well at Pontefract, he has come out of his race very well, we expect him to run a huge race at Newmarket.

Grecian who has been working well, runs at York and we have potentially booked an apprentice and he will go there fit.

We are running a couple of nice two year olds at Newbury on Friday, one is a Dutch Art called Dutch Portrait and the other Expensive Date, in the five furlongs conditions race.

British Art, our only two year old runner, who ran disappointingly at Pontefract, came back with a dirty scope so we have drawn a line underneath it. We have some nice two year olds to come out.
could see his chances were doomed as soon as he came out the stalls in front and started pulling and he was never going to get home. Last year first time out he
did the same at Newbury, had no cover pulled and ran out of steam. He will do a
bit of work on Saturday on our Woolley Down grass gallop for the first time
this year and he will go the full distance. We are obviously hoping the race
would have brought him on mentally and if we are happy with his work on Saturday
a tilt at the Guineas is not out of the question. We would hope for a fast pace
which would suit us.
0-105 handicap he finished very fast and we will look for another race shortly.
1m is too short for him, 1m 1f is a perfect distance for him but they are few
and far between I think we may have to go back to France where he won his Group
3.
<span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 11pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">
<span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 11pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">
getting bumped finished him off. When you have the maximum field size like that
a smooth passage over that distance is beneficial. Silverheels may have not had
the easiest runs around although at the same time it was a very competitive
field.
<span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 11pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">
she heads to the Dahlia Stakes, she did a nice piece of work last Saturday and
is due for another piece this weekend.
<span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 11pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">
over 1m 4f he ran encouragingly at Newbury and will need further in time but he
has improved from his last run.
<span style="font-family: "Calibri","sans-serif"; font-size: 11pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-GB; mso-bidi-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA; mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB;">
help him he still maintains stacks of ability. Meritocracy had bad luck in
running at Newmarket and will probably head to York he has obviously trained on
and should be capable of picking up a couple of races this year all being well.
we have not done too much finding out work here but he heads their in good
form.
We are now looking forward to our first big weekend at Newbury where we have 5 horses running on the Saturday.

Most notably Berkshire heads for the Greenham, he is fit and has been working well. We think he has improved from last year and we are hoping for a good run. For the first time we have a good draw! Fingers crossed!

Bluegrass Blues runs in the Spring Cup, he's in great form and is working really well. He's got a good draw and is fit and well.

Fort Berkeley and Dark Days two of our three year old maidens they run in the 4.05pm. Fort Berkeley is a half brother to First Mohican and we think he is a really nice horse in the making. Dark Days is a very good looking, stoutly bred horse and we expect him to run well and come on for the run.

Our final runner is Circumvent. He ran very well in the Winter Derby, he's a different horse on grass but all being well we expect him to run a big race.

Here's to a fantastic weekend racing and the start of a great season!!
January has seen a few more new additions to the yard with the arrival of a Filly by Motivator and another by Rail Link. Also now on the books is a lovely 3 year old Filly named Abbakova.
So its full steam ahead for the remainder of the month with the majority of the Yearlings starting to canter next week and our older recruits back in and walking.
Plenty to look forward to!Paul Cole Racinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04585470006963771937noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1913402456684635611.post-46980445633930559592014-01-11T02:46:00.001-08:002014-01-11T02:46:53.936-08:00Happy New Yearlings! Its been a rather wet and windy start to 2014 here at Whatcombe however the sun is now shining and there is plenty to look forward to for this coming season.
We have a really nice bunch of 2 year old's on the yard for next season, all have been backed and are now trotting with most of them cantering before Christmas.
All of our older horses bar a few have been enjoying a well deserved break through the winter and we are all looking forward to their return.
Treasure Cay runs in Deauville on Monday 13th January in a 7.5 furlong Maiden. We think he will run very well.
All in all lots to look forward to. Happy New Year!!

Cafetiere picked up £2,500 for coming fourth in a Deauville claimer. In a maiden today at home at a big track you can pick up £400 for coming fourth, it just shows you the terryfying comparison. She will head there in December now.

Meritocracy ran really nicely to win at Kempton since his gelding he seems to have settled and become a very handy racehorse. Cape Arrow was unlucky not to win under Jimmy Quinn and he will race again on the aw-weather at Wolverhampton. Silverheels did not like the ground at Ascot and he will probably head to Deauville in December.

Sales and Results!!

We went looking high and low at the sales in Newmarket and Deauville and it was very hard work to create value as we got outbid at numerous times anyway with hard work we managed to buy some exceptionally nice horses and came back with ten.
Headed by Berkshire and Gifted Girl we have had a great year. We have been supported by some great owners and hopefully it will role on next year. Jim Crowley has also played a big part in the operation and has ridden very consistently for us. Our staff have done a great job and its been a real team effort. We have already bought some nice two year olds from Goff's and touch wood thy turn out to be good.

Berkshire ran a great race to beat Somewhat in a thrilling finish the race was best described as a football match in which "Manchester United play badly but still managed to win". He pulled hard for the first couple of furlongs was on the side where there was no pace, did not like the ground didnt come down the hill straightened out and had to catch the winners, class prevailed. Jim Crowley gave him a great ride and the dream is still alive.

Gifted Girl ran a great race in the Dubai Duty Free at Newbury it was run over 1 mile 3 furlongs and she was last of the bridle and did not get home inside the last furlong her optimum trip is 1 mile 2 furlongs in which the Prix De L'Opera is run over she is in the form of her life, still thriving and should put up a good show on Sunday.

We plan to have some runners in Deauville in October and December and will buy some French breds as the prize money with the premiums is so much bigger in France. We will be happy to assist anyone who would be interested in purchasing a French bred.
The horses are very well in themselves and we are just about to turn it up a bit.

Gifted Girl may head to the Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial or she has been invited to the Flower bowl Invitational Stakes at Belmont Park in New York. Gifted Girl is in very good form and is fresh and well, There was some more good form for her through Lady's First at Sandown on Saturday, there has got to be a big one in her.

Jim Crowley came to ride Berkshire on Saturday and felt he was in good form and had come on from his race, the horse has grown an inch and we are very happy with him physically and mentally, he is ready to run and is fit and well. The Champagne Stakes is his target a week Saturday.

Double Points heads for Craon in France and runs in the Listed Criterium De L'Ouest over the extended mile. Double Points came fourth in a listed in Deauville on the 20th August, he was very unlucky not to have been there or there abouts after nearly been knocked over at the bend and loosing momentum and then finishing like a train. We really like him and he should have a good chance in Craon he is growing and strengthening all the time. He also thrives on racing

Complicit heads either to the Sirenia Stakes or the Mill Reef Stakes. Complicit is a very nice horse, he's come on from his race leaps and bounds and runs in the colours of T A Rahman. We expect him to run well for our new owner who we are delighted to have in the yard. He is a half sister to Jersey Stakes winner Rainfall and seems to be talented himself.

We still have some nice two year olds too come out either at the end of this month or even next month. Ones too look out for are Fort Berkley by Fastnet Rock who is a half brother to Ebor winner Tiger Cliff. Also Treasure Key who is by Bahamian Bounty and is shaping up really nicely.
massive race at Arlington in coming second behind Dank who in the end won
nicely. The race did not really suit her way of running as it was a furious
pace from the beginning, she broke and took a bit of time to get into stride
aided by Tom who knows her very well. As Dank had left her up the straight by the time she got into top gear the race was
over, she was a fast finisher. She really enjoyed her trip
and could be heading back to the States in September.

Starting of with a treble at Ripon, it was great to get another
winner for the Sultan in Kuantan one who put up a very gutsy performance to win
having taken the lead at the bottom bend. Complicit also did it the hard way in
the maiden having broke a bit late and coming through to win given an emphatic ride by Graham Lee, he is a nice horse in the making and will run at Windsor under new ownership a week on Monday in a
novice race at Windsor. One of the yards favourites Silverheel's can sometimes be hard to
place but everything suited him a smallish field and daylight where he went onto
prevail. Thatchit who is a half sister to Radiohead also ran a blinder to come second
at Windsor we hope there is a maiden in her, she is very well at home. Dutch
Art dealer looked like he got beat by a very good horse to come third at Ascot
but we think there is a lot more to come from him as we have always liked him
and he is one to keep an eye out for in the future.

Goodwood:

Silverheels after his win at
Ripon did not bounce back as we thought he may do but the feeling was he did
not like the ground and the field was probably was too big. Grecian ran ok but
we feel he did not quicken down the hill, it looked like the inexperience beat him,
as he was one of the last of the bridle he is a very nice horse for the future he should
have won at Ascot but did not have luck in running. The ground did not help Meritocracy by
the mass of rain that hit the track the night before he is a firm ground
specialist.

Bluegrass Blues is such a nice
horse to train he is tough and genuine. He has won three races this year and
probably was unlucky in a couple. The pace really suited him and he galloped
right to the line. He may go over a mile next time.

Berkshire did his first gallop on
the grass since the Chesham and his regular work jockey could not be happier with
him the Champagne is still the target.

Gifted Girl worked very well on Saturday and will be heading to the Beverly D it looks a hot race but the prize money is big and she is in great form, she heads out there next Saturday.
